First Time Kitchen Buyers

Pleasant Hill You may think that purchasing a few cabinets and a countertop may be a simple process but we think that you will be surprised to learn the detail involved. Here are a few pointers that will help you prepare for this project and may also help you choose a kitchen supplier and a contractor.

CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET

A kitchen can become very costly, very quickly. If you are doing an entire kitchen, set a budget for each section of your project, cabinets, countertops, fixtures, plumbing, flooring, lighting, appliances and labor should all be taken into account.

SCHEDULING YOUR PROJECT

The more time you have, the more options you will have. Allow yourself a few weeks for research, design, layout, and pricing and then consider the following:
  • Stock Cabinets are a limited selection but offer immediate delivery
  • Semi-Custom expands your selections and can be received within 3-4 weeks
  • Full Custom offers unlimited selections but can take anywhere from 6-9 weeks for delivery

SELECTING A CONTRACTOR

Harmony Photo Based on the amount of work involved and the timing of your project, you should begin to look for a contractor. You’ll want to find someone who has experience with all aspects of your project. For further information on how to select a good local contractor, contact:

DESIGNING YOUR KITCHEN

This is a very important aspect of your project, the wrong design can lead to an unsatisfied and financially strained customer which can also add additional time and cost to the final outcome. The initial process should begin with a private meeting with your sales person to express your desires and needs, allowing your salesperson to assist you thru the process with ease.

Things to take into consideration before you buy a kitchen:
  • Do you have soffits? They may limit your design.
  • Height of your ceilings.
  • Lighting and electrical outlet placement.
  • Type of flooring and countertops.
  • Type and placement of appliances.
  • Size and shape of kitchen sink.
  • What style and/ or wood species are you looking for?
  • Do you have specific storage needs?
  • Do you have specific needs due to things such as religion or disability?
  • Do you need assistance in making decisions and/ or designing your space?
  • Who will be responsible for the fit and function of cabinetry and appliances?
  • Who will take final measurements of the areas where you are adding cabinetry and countertops?

WORKING WITH YOUR CONTRACTOR, BUILDER, OR DECORATOR

Make sure your kitchen salesperson will work with and make himself available to that person to answer questions and go over the fine details to assure you the best outcome.
